        New Learning Resource Center-January 2006

We have been working collectively in the planning of the new learning resource center. It is exciting to plan the new technologies to be utilized in the different areas including the distance education room, information literacy, community room, faculty resource center, video editing suites and collaborative student work areas.
Here is a link to a student created video about the library. "A Field Trip To Hartnell College Library".

The media wall is comprised of four 50 inch NEC plasma screens that are controlled via server based software that drives digital media content to the individual or groups of screens.
        Smart Desks

The design, construction and installation of the smart desks was completed in 2002. The smart desks are six foot long custom designed teaching stations with state of the art technology, they were designed by working with instructors to get their input, needs and ideas. I enjoyed working with the instructors and carpenters in coordinating the construction and installation. Four desks which allow instructors the opportunity to integrate the use of the Internet, software applications, DVD/VHS and document camera technology in to their lessons. Along that same line I am asked to develop a distance education desk that will be similar but different in that it will be capable of sending and receiving live video using ISDN and IP.  This system includes a custom designed touch screen interface.

Video Conference Technology Enables Remote Sites
Our NRN 22 Perioperative Nursing course is successfully using the video conferencing equipment in the Technology Learning Center. The course is taught by Frances Bullman and her class is being attended by three distant sites as well as students at Hartnell. Frances received training on the AMX touch screen interface and conducts the conferences using the skills and techniques learned through our Faculty Resource Center. In addition, she had developed a course website that provides her students an opportunity to review course Powerpoint slideshows and lectures.
